Tapestry + Essay (female figure) Arken

The Tapestry of Madeira is today an endangered art. Bordal – Bordados da Madeira acquired the estate of the last Madeira Tapestry factory that closed its doors in 2017. All works and studies are guarding and preserving, as well as the history of this art. Bordal's mission has been to protect and disseminate Madeira Embroidery and now the Tapestry of Madeira. The most significant pieces, and the production and history part, are on display at Bordal's Factory and Historical Script. The Tapestry of Madeira began to be produced by the hands of the embroiderers, after the appearance of madeira embroidery at the end of the last century. This tapestry industry emerged in 1936, on the initiative of the German painter Herbert Kiekeben. From this date, embroiderers have become so important in this art of 'painting' with wool and cotton threads on the tapestry canvases. In each order was created an original. This model then entered a breeding phase on new canvases, in which the so-called 'maticadoras' of the atelier chose and added the wool to the canvases that would be delivered to the wise hands of the embroiderers scattered throughout the island, who then used the points of 'grado', kid", "gobleliu" or "aligned" according to the different techniques to be applied to 'draw' landscapes, portraits, as well as paintings by great painters. Bordal was founded in 1962. Today, we are one of the main manufacturers and exporters of the famous Madeira Embroidery. And our mission is to preserve and promote Madeiran culture and tradition. Quantity: Tapestry + Essay (unique pieces)
